descripção: The satiric piece Grottesca (1993) is not programme music, although it depicts with irony various accidents that can happen during a music performance. For the first performance a pantomime was realized in order to emphasize better the overall character.

First 4 bars: while the clarinetist is playing his solo, the other performers settle chairs and music stands. A clock has to be put on a separate stand easily visible.
Aleatory section: the performers follow the timings indicated in the score with the aid of the clock.
Preparation of the piano: some plastic boxes should be used and placed on the strings to create an effect like a harpsichord. The preparation has to be removed when indicated.
Scordatura of the violin: after tuning the 1st string down, all the notes written on E will sound half a tone lower than indicated.
Final page: each performer concludes his part and leaves the stage. The clarinetist leaves the stage while playing the last two bars.

The score is written in C. The separate clarinet part is for instrument in A.
